Assignment 10
October 16th, 2016
The Internet of Things (IoT) goes way beyond consumer gadgets like smart fitness bands or self-monitoring refrigerators. This is the start of a new, more efficient industrial ecosystem.
It is fifth-generation connectivity, or 5G, that will push IoT into overdrive. This next evolution will do more than just make smartphones work faster. Its responsiveness will cut down connectivity delays between networks and devices. “It is very important to have a platform that’s capable of managing all of this communication that’s coming from the environment around us,” says Carlo Ratti, Ph.D., director of MIT’s Senseable City Lab.
For businesses to make the most of IoT, they must be prepared to assess and quantify the risks it will create. From cyber breaches to property and product liability, businesses have to outline new ways of thinking about their risks as they adopt IoT.
