One dimensional photonic crystal (1DPCs) which can be applied as optical low pass filter is designed and fabricated to act as infrared shield films. The device block infrared light and pass only light composed of short wavelengths. The one dimensional photonic crystal (1DPC) is formed from alternate layers of optical thin films consisting of high (TiO2) and low (SiO2) refractive index materials. The measured data is in a good agreement with the simulated ones. It is concluded that it could design and fabricate optical low pass filter based on one dimensional photonic crystal. They could be used as infrared shield devices with transmission greater than 90% in the visible region and reflection greater than 99 % in the infrared region.
