we disagree with both Edison and his critics. We
do not believe that any single technology can
or will revolutionize education. Nor, however,
do we feel that a bit of exuberance about how
emerging technologies and related pedagogies
may improve teaching and learning is outlandish.
This is partly because any comparison of
motion pictures, radio, TV, and even early computing
to the current state of technical evolution
is simply inadequate. The pace of technological
change is so rapid that we must factor this in to
our discussions when we are viewing its impact
