Today’s the final day of organizing and getting rid of the clutter in your life. This morning, begin in the dining room. It’s an easy room to tackle and to maintain. The dining room is a place for eating and sharing meals with your family, and therefore it shouldn’t be cluttered with toys or books. If it doesn’t belong in the dining room, remove it. Put items away in their designated areas. It’s fine to store fine china and similar items in your dining room, but the other things have to go.
Tables have always been a trouble spot for my family. It’s so convenient to put the mail down on the dining table, or to leave homework out there. Get your family involved in keeping your dining room free from mess by adding hanging storage to the back of dining room chairs. They can be removed easily for formal dinners, and store your family’s things the rest of the time. They’re great for holding homework and other paperwork that would otherwise get left behind.
With the dining room out of the way, it’s time to begin de-cluttering the kitchen. Again, the same principles as before apply here: Take everything out of the drawers and cabinets and decide whether you truly need it or not. That food dehydrator you used 6 years ago? Donate or sell it! The first place to start is in the pantry. My family has food in the pantry that’s been there forever. If you haven’t eaten it or used it in the past six months toss it. You need to eliminate these old items and things you don’t use anymore (reference the food dehydrator) in order to organize the pantry to get the most space out of it. If you don’t have one, you should consider adding a Lazy Susan to store canned goods and spices on, so they’re all easy to access. You should also add 1-2 small storage baskets to store small items like cake decorating supplies, etc.
