The mother of murdered Daniel Pelka has been found dead in prison - on the eve of what would have been the boy's eighth birthday.
Magdalena Luczak was found unresponsive in her cell at HMP Foston Hall Prison, Derbyshire, at 7.15am.
She was barely two years into a 30-year prison sentence after subjecting Daniel to "incomprehensible cruelty", starving him before he was beaten to death. He was four.
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: "Paramedics attended and she was pronounced dead at the scene."
He said there would be an independent investigation into how she died, as is the case with all deaths in custody.
