3.2 ORIENTATION
The Platform has been be oriented so that, if there is a dominant wind direction, it will minimize the likelihood of a gas release or smoke drifting towards the accommodation and primary evacuation points.
The design of ventilation system shall be such as to minimize the likelihood of contamination of the Survivability Shelter, as well as the Technical Rooms, by smoke or gas from air inlet of Ventilation System.
Equipment shall be arranged with a view to providing efficient ventilation of hazardous areas.
3.3 SEGREGATION
Areas separation has been carried out in order to avoid potential escalation in case of accidents. Areas of high potential risk are separated from areas of low potential risk and from areas containing significant safety functions. Incident escalation between areas shall be avoided.
Vents are located in order to cause minimum interference or hazard to plant and personnel.
Emergency systems, safety equipment and evacuation means have been located within “safe areas” to guarantee their availability even during emergency conditions.
Personnel protection is provided for all piping with external temperature exceeding 65 °C and which could come into contact with people performing normal duties. The protection may be thermal insulation, guards made of suitable material and/or warning signs.
3.4 ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND CONTROL
During Platform layouts development, dedicated areas for the installation of drainages and spill control systems have been foreseen in order to minimize accident likelihood and potential escalation.
Process piping, equipment, risers and conductors, which are potential sources of hydrocarbon leaks, are routed so as to minimize the likelihood of external impacts (e.g. from maintenance devices, ships, rigs etc.).
For gas systems, vents and relief valves have been routed to safe location avoiding the vented volumes to be able to create a hazardous condition.
A High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) is provided downstream Gas Manifold, in order to protect the Separator against overpressure; Separator design pressure is 138 barg, lower than the Wellheads and flowlines maximum static pressure. HIPPS is SIL3 certified.
Drainage tanks, equipped with suitable drainage basin, have been located as far as possible from production and utility units and far away from escape routes.
Drain Systems are required to:
• allow the quick and safe removing of liquid hydrocarbons in emergency situations;
• collect direct spills to a safe location where they can be retained and/or either recovered;
