For this chapter I was asked to engage in a bit of 'futures thinking' as far as ICTs areconcerned- both a seductive prospect and a difficult challenge! Futures thinking related togeography education and ICT is not new. In particular, Allen in 1988 as part of his PhDresearch at Cambridge employed a panel of 24 UK experts with national reputations andcredentials in computer assisted learning in geography (the then fashionable term for what isnow ICT). He used a DELPHI study on the use of computers in the teaching of geographyto discover what were the experts' consensus opinions on likely futures, 12 years ahead in2000. Figure 1 shows the final consensus predictions for tlie year 2000.
