WASH/ Shelter Project Assistant (Engineer)-Al-Turba , Taiz(National Position)
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs
Main purpose of the position is to ensure quality implementation of the Shelter/WASH activities. The WASH/Shelter assistant will facilitate the implementation of WASH engineering activities including water sources rehabilitation as well as shelter activities. He/She will also will support in Need assessment, coordination and provide support in planning and designing of NRC’s future programming.
Job description
• To supervise construction of water supply and sanitation facilities in Taiz Governorate and any other site for which NRC will make interventions in the area of water supply and sanitation services. The provided designs and action plans should be the basis for all construction works.
• Assist the Public Health Engineering team in planning and executing water & sanitation and construction components in the Humanitarian Programme Supervise the water trucking operations for equitable water distribution reaching all the targeted beneficiaries (IDPs and Host Communities) on a greed criteria.
• Construction and/or rehabilitation of existing water distribution network in urban and rural environments in Taiz governorate.
• Liaise closely with the Public Health Promotion assistant (s)and Livelihood Team throughout the planning, design and implementation stages of the WASH Engineering and Shelter Programmes. Hygiene promotion is a vital element of such programmes.
• To prepare progress and situational reports and submit the same to the WASH/Shelter Officer within agreed intervals. Details of the reports should conform to the agreed format.
• To ensure that all programmes take gender issues fully into account. This includes the introduction of mechanisms to enable women to participate in decision-making around WASH Engineering issues as well as Shelter issues.
• To ensure effective team spirit and working relations among NRC staff in Taiz .
