On April 11, 1967, the District’s first two permanent fixed-time ramp meters were
installed on the northbound Hollywood Freeway (Route 101) at Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard. The project was successful in relieving congestion on the freeway mainline without seriously affecting surface street operations.
Freeway delay was reduced by about 75%.
