With criterion-referenced tests, the test items can be conceived as a sample from a domain of
tasks covering a well-defined objective or competency, and the concern is ordinarily with the examinee’s
domain score. A domain score is the proportion of successes to be expected when an examinee
is administered the entire domain; formally, it is known as the relative generic true score (Lord &
Novick, 1968, sect. 11.2).
