Dear Client,
Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
The Government of Canada remains deeply concerned about the escalating violence in Syria and about the increasing humanitarian needs there and in neighboring countries.
The Canadian High Commission considers applications from refugees and other persons in need of protection only if:
1. they have been either referred by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR); or
2. they have obtained a private sponsorship which has been approved by a Canadian Immigration Centre in Canada.
Please be advised that the approval of a private sponsorship in Canada is not a guarantee that a subsequent application for refugee protection will result in an interview, will be accepted or that a visa will ultimately be issued.
Also, if you already have a file with the UNHCR and wish to obtain more information, you may contact them by referring to:

For information regarding referrals from the UNHCR:

For information about sponsoring a refugee:

And, for the most recent updates on the situation in Syria:

Rest assured that all Syrian resettlement applications and sponsorships are being processed on a priority basis.
We hope the above will be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
