At the end of the imagery exercise, students were asked to fill out a discussionworksheet with the following questions. (1) What emotions did you feel during and afterthe exercise? (2) What images did you see or hear that made you feel this way? (3) What issociological about this exercise? Once they completed their worksheets, they were asked toform small groups with nearby classmates to discuss their answers. In total, the presentationof the image lasted about 10 minutes, and the small group segment lasted 10–15 minutes. Then the professor led a full class discussion over each of the answers, seeking out eachgroup’s thoughts and discussion points. First, the instructor asked students to summarizetheir answers to the class, which opened the discussion and helped the instructor gaugecomfort level. As students began participating, the instructor guided discussion towards theopen-ended questions that allowed students to share feelings and reactions to the exercise.Throughout the discussion, the licensed counselor paid attention to body language to ensurethat a normal comfort level was maintained and that students did not appear distressed oroverly anxious. Finally, as discussion dwindled, students were reminded of the resourcesavailable to them, such as speaking with the faculty members individually, meeting with thelicensed counselor available, or visiting campus or community resources. Students receivedfull credit for participation for the day via an attendance sheet, regardless of whether or notthey chose to contribute to the discussion
