Abu Dhabi — The National Drilling Company (NDC) has inaugurated its new jack-up rig, Shuwehat. Shuwehat is the fifth rig in a series of eight to be acquired by NDC and manufactured in the UAE by Lamprell. The rig was inaugurated at a ceremony held in the Hamriyah Free Zone in Sharjah.
The inauguration was held in the presence of Shaikh Saud bin Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, advisor at the office of the Ruler of Sharjah.
Abdalla Saeed Al Suwaidi, NDC chief executive officer, said: “The Shuwehat rig represents a great addition to the NDC’s fleet of modern rigs. It will help the company maintain the highest levels of reliability and productivity and serve its clients with the utmost levels of efficiency and competence.”
He said that the rig has 15,000 PSI (per square inch) equipment, making it suitable for Adnoc and ADMA deep gas wells. “It is a source of pride that all five rigs were built here in the UAE and to highest quality and international standards,” Al Suwaidi added.
The NDC has doubled its rigs fleet from 28 in 2009 to 60 today to achieve client targets and perform various drilling operations.
Jim Moffat, chief executive officer of Lamprell, said: “The NDC–Lamprell relationship has once more produced a world-class solution, the Shuwehat rig -— which has been built in the UAE and will operate here. It is a great testament to the skills and abilities that exist in this country today.”
Moffat added: “These projects are not produced by individuals, they are, instead, produced by great teamwork. I thank the NDC for their trust and look forward to further successful ventures together in the future.”
