orientation is different from that of the mainstream, please do not take offense to this exercise.
If you are of a different sexual orientation, hopefully this will help others understand what it’s
like to live a while in your shoes. You are still welcome to participate in the exercise.
Get into as comfortable a position as you can, and close your eyes. For the next couple
minutes, just concentrate on your breathing. This is not a time to be worrying about any of
the things that are happening in your day-to-day life. This is a time only for you, and you
can let it all hang out. For this very short period of time, you can completely relax.
Take down all your preconceived notions about how the world is, how it works, and who is
in it. We are going to go to a different place today, and in order for this to be successful, you need
to be completely OPEN-MINDED. Leave behind your preconceived notions, be open to what
we are going to experience, and allow yourself to truly be at the place we will talk about. This is
imperative to have a good, open discussion and in order to understand a fuller picture of society.
DO NOT TALK, WHISPER, LAUGH, or make comments during this guided exercise.
If, at any time, you feel uncomfortable, and want to stop, you may. But if you are
disruptive (i.e., laughing, talking, making jokes or other inappropriate comments), I will
signal for you to leave the classroom.
