Schools are about learning, and the Habits of Mind offer a set of valuedintellectual dispositions toward which teachers and students consciouslyand consistently work. The habits provide guidelines for a process forinteraction. Loyalty to a process for interaction is as significant as loyaltyto the decisions that are a result of that process. We seek to operate in aworld that is civil, that respects individuality and differences, and that providesa path for consistency, not uniformity. Senge (1990) suggests that aculture is people thinking together. As individuals share meaning, theynegotiate and build a culture. As groups become more skillful in employingthe Habits of Mind, the habits create a renegotiation of the organizationby pervading the value system.
