Many people who hurt themselves on the job feel that the problem will go away in a few days. So they wait: a day, two days, a week, two weeks, a month. Lo and behold, the pain does not go away, or, it becomes worse, so they can’t work because of it. Then, it is reported to the employer.
WRONG! While you have one year to formally present a workers’ compensation claim, you really must report the injury to your employer immediately.
That doesn’t mean that you have to stay out of work. It doesn’t mean that you will receive money. However, if you wait to report the injury, you run the risk that your employer will feel that you really hurt yourself someplace else and are just trying to take advantage of the workers compensation process.
I have had many cases where treatment has been delayed and the client has suffered pain, because of having to attend more than one hearing over two or more months to convince the employer’s insurance company that the injury happened when the employee said it did, in order to get the employee treatment.
Secondly, if you hurt yourself, GET IT CHEC
