You can size up pieces of wood/bamboo for utensils/storage and with the knife you can widdle/carve/hollow them out. The saw will allow you to make things that will allow you permanence and tools without wearing out your knife trying to saw everything with it, such as a spear, a rack to hang/dry out food, shelter strong enough to build off of the ground for warmth, dry living, and keeping the animals at bay.The Knife: This one speaks for itself. Sharp tips on strong poles = spears for fishing/hunting, protection, the ability to bury poles into the ground for shelter, etc. Not to mention it's usefulness in preparing food, self defense, etc.The Pot: This is easily the most important item. Without this you have no clean water. The purifier is great, but it is finite, it will run out and if you aren't rescued you have no way to clean your water. Also using this for a number of other things. The Tent: Tents offer temporary shelter while you establish a better solution. When it is no longer needed you have cordage, mesh net, a tarp, poles, and probably stakes. Very useful beyond just shelter for trapping, netting fish, etc.Relevant video: Not a stranded island, but Dick Proenneke living in Alaska shows you can make a hammer, you can make pegs/holes, etc all out of wood. But you can't make a saw. Saw is essential for longer living imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYJKd0rkKss
