•A (Alert): who is able to answer questions accurately and appropriately as name, place, and date? If the victim looks at you spontaneously, can communicate and seems to have control of his/her body, he/she can be termed alert.
•V (Verbal): who is responsive to verbal stimulus and reacts to loud sounds.
•P (Pain): who is responsive to pain (will move or cry or flutter the eyes in response to pain) but not respond to verbal stimuli. The first stimulus to use is a tap/shake of the shoulder. There are other, more painful stimuli that can be employed should this be unsuccessful.
•Of these, the two most commonly used ones are:
