a powerful mathematical thinking and a basicindicator of the investigating invariants componentof geometric habits of mind. In this study, balancingexploration and reflection appeared explicitly inthe perimeter problem. The majority of candidatesintuitively constructed random triangles for thedesired triangle and tried familiar strategies. Onlytwo went beyond spontaneous thinking and trials, and they engaged in holistic thinking by returningto the big picture and visualizing the final state—these strategies indicate geometric habits of mind.Similarly, the component balancing explorationand reflection was the least used habit among theteacher candidates in Koç and Bozkurt’s (2012)study. In addition, in their study about primaryschool teacher candidates’ problem-posing skillson semi-structured situations, Işık and Kar (2012)found that participants could pose very fewproblems regarding the desired situation, that mostof the problems they posed could be solved throughsimple calculations, and that these were related to alimited number of different mathematical concepts
