There are 14 branches at TaibahUniversity; more than one third (37.8%) of them studied at Faculty of Arts and Humanities and only (1.1%) from dental college (Table 2). From this result, we could see association between obesity and Faculty of Arts College; further studies need to be carried to explore reasons for Thais. In addition, Results showed that mean actual BMI of participants was 33.2 and majority of the students were under category of class I obesity (Table 3).
In our study, we looked at risk factors of obesity among students. We found that majority of the students were eat fast food (81.1%), 62.8% drinking high calories soft drinks, more than half of the sample (55%) were sleeping immediately after their meal, and only 22.1% were doing regular exercise. On other hand, more than half of students (59.4%) have no family history of obesity and 53.9% were eating 1-2 meals /day (Table 4). These findings is consistence with study that done at Hail region, 2014, were the author stated that “the increased consumption of fast foods and sugar dense beverages (e.g., sodas) as well as the extensive use of cars, elevators, escalators, and remotes in recent years has dramatically increased the burden of obesity in KSA” (1).However, in our study we didn’t look at other factors like using cars and escalators. In addition, there is recent study done in the same region (Hail) done by “Mo’ez Al-Islam" et al, showed that both genders were at risk for dietary behaviors like eating less fruits and vegetables. Snacking was inversely associated with overweight and obesity while drinking caffeinated beverages was positively linked. Skipping breakfast, low consumption of fruits, and frequent restaurant visits were significantly associated with prevalence of high BMI(18).
