• To maximize the chances of survival of personnel entering the sea, life-jackets are provided at suitable locations on the installation.
In selecting the types, numbers and locations of evacuation devices the more credible scenarios and the maximum personnel distribution should be considered. It is important that enough diversity and choice is available to allow personnel use them in all different hazardous identified scenarios.
The equipment and layout are arranged to provide at least 2 different escape routes from any area.
The general principles in the provision of tertiary methods for escape to the sea are:
• they should take into account the likely scenarios;
• escape should be possible from several locations on the installation;
• life-raft, which are capable of being easily launched, should be provided to protect personnel who enter the sea;
• systems should be designed such that personnel who enter the sea can be realistically use any available lift-raft;
• effective training and procedures should be provided for the use of tertiary methods for escape to the sea.
Main escape routes have a minimum width of 1 meter and a minimum height of 2.2 meters. Secondary escape routes have a minimum clearance width of 0.8 meters and a minimum clear height of 2 meters. In any case, suitable spacing has been provided considering stretcher manoeuvring.
Every escape route shall be at all times unobstructed, readily accessible, well-illuminated and well-marked to allow personnel reaching the muster area without any loose of time.
Escape ways are provided with emergency lights working at least for the time required for the abandonment of the installation.
Direction arrow markers have been strategically positioned along escape routes where it is necessary to guide personnel to the muster area.
Muster point is located at el. Service Plan (el.+7200) in order to allow the installation of PA/GA system and lifesaving equipment box close to Muster Point, guaranteeing at least 0.35 m2 (according to SOLAS Requirements) and protection against waves action (splash zone maximum height +4000).
Muster point shall be equipped with emergency lights, life-raft suitable for 20 people (200% POB) and lifejacket sufficient for all platform crew.
Safety Life Saving and Appliances are designed adequate for 200% of the total persons on board (POB).
Safety and Life Saving Appliances, in compliance with LSA Code, shall consist of, but no limited to, the following items:
• life jackets;
• life buoys with light;
• life-rafts with descent device (e.g. knotted rope);
• net scramble.
Suitable drainage and spill control has been provided to minimise any escalation arising from spill.
The plant layout meets safety requirements for hazardous area classification relevant to electrical and non-electrical equipment.
