Acquisition of Real Estate and Personal Property under Article 66 (b) of the Banking Law. Banks are allowed to acquire real estate and personal property in satisfaction of debts previously contracted within the normal course of banking business, subject to the condition that such property shall be sold or otherwise disposed of within 12 months of the date of acquisition, unless an extension is granted by the Central Bank. Until such property is finally sold or disposed of, banks should not release the specific provisions that backed such loans, to the income account.
