In some circumstances you may judge it essential to raise the case with the authorities in order to prevent further abuses against prisoners. This should only be done if you feel confident that there is no significant risk of harm to the prisoner. You should nevertheless investigate alternative ways of ensuring that ill-treatment of prisoners is stopped by the prison management. This may include through contact with your professional association, legal bodies, or a prison ombudsman.
