In Part 1 of my Jobs of the future series I discussed the findings of a report that predicted around 40% of the Australian workforce could be replaced by computers in the next 10–15 years – a trend that is likely to follow here.
More importantly, I wrote about how you’d have a better chance of escaping the robots by focusing on jobs that require creative thinking and problem solving. That’s because it’s recognised that jobs involving low levels of social interaction, creativity, and skill are more at risk of automation. Also, any job that requires routine measurement, operation or digital pattern recognition is vulnerable to being replaced by a machine.
