Before Driving
Authorisation:
Do not drive any vehicle unless the answer to all of the following questions is yes:
1. Are you authorised by SC to drive this vehicle?
2. Are your licence and vehicle road tax and insurance in order? Are you carrying the necessary
documents?
3. Has the journey been authorised?
4. Are you taking only authorised passengers? (Unauthorised passengers may not be covered by
insurance).
Fitness:
You must not drive if you have been drinking or taking drugs (whether prescribed or not) that may
affect your ability to drive. Neither must you drive if you are injured or tired.
Tools:
Are all the vehicle tools/equipment present and in good order as listed in the vehicle log book?
Minimum requirements are 1st Aid kit, fire extinguisher, spare tyre and tools to change a wheel.
Checks:
Have you (or another authorised driver) performed the daily or if required weekly vehicle checks?

Loading:
You must know the permitted loading weights for your vehicle. You must also know the permitted
number of passengers. Check in the vehicle handbook. Make sure that any loads are firmly tied
down, especially those carried inside the vehicle. Spare wheels should not be carried inside the
vehicle, unless securely tied down. You are responsible for any accidents that happen as a result
of poorly secured loads.
Seatbelts:
Drivers and passengers - including rear seat passengers - must always wear seatbelts. It is the
responsibility of the driver to make sure that passengers are using their belts.
Completion of Log:
The vehicle log-sheet must be completed and signed by passengers before starting a journey.
After Driving
When away from home base
• Put the vehicle in a safe place and lock it securely.
At home base
• Put the vehicle in its usual place.
• Lock up securely.
• Hand in/hang up vehicle keys if required by local instructions.
• Report any faults on vehicle.
• Deliver any messages, letters or packages.
• Ensure log-sheet is completed for the day.
• If your vehicle has reached the mileage at which its next service is due, remind Logistics
Officer.
• Complete the log book.
