Calibration of Reference Measurement Devices
The accuracy of Master Meters (MM) and Proving Tanks (PT) shall be known to enable the
measured results to be adjusted to obtain a corrected volume. Master Meters and Proving Tanks
shall themselves be calibrated by a recognised testing authority certified to carry out the tests in
accordance with national standards.
Master meters, which are used only for testing other meters used on aviation fuelling equipment
(i.e. handling clean dry fuel), that are installed on a test rig, (this is the preferred arrangement) or
are otherwise used at one airport location, shall be calibrated every three years.:
Proving Tanks shall be calibrated if:
(a) The measurement scale is loose or has been moved.
(b) There is damage/deformation of the tank wall.
(c) Any modifications are made.
(d) The displacement adjuster is loose or has been moved.
(e) Operational reference data is missing - e.g. calibration temperature/draining time.
